Session 1 6-8PM PT | Catherine Cadden & Jesse Wiens Chu Yes, NVC trainers in long-term relationships still fight! We've raised our voices, pointed fingers, walked out of the room, and been judgy giraffes and jackals. We've been confrontational and conflict avoidant. We've said things we regret. AND, we've learned a few things along the way about how to contribute to more connection, ease, and joy. Come learn from our mistakes, and start having better fights with your long term partner. | Mary Goyer Explore the empathy games that support engagement and connection, while building skills for beginners. Great for bringing NVC to classrooms, work settings, and facilitation spaces, these games add both fun and depth and make introducing NVC easy. Learn how to work with folks individually and in groups - download free Feelings/Needs cards ahead of time at www.groktheworld.com. | Roxy Manning Can NVC effectively address issues of power and privilege? Bring your questions and challenges to this session. We'll answer some questions and provide live coaching for others in this interactive session created by you! |

9-9:30AM | Opening Session
Session 2 10AM-12PM PT | Yvette Erasmus How might NVC practices and consciousness support you when you're feeling activated in a conversation? We will explore stimulus-response cycles, body cues, emotional regulation, and distress tolerance skills, relating to anger, and dialogue skills. | Miki Kashtan This session is for people who are actively distressed about what is going on in the world and want to know how NVC can be of service in meeting such immense challenges. Drawing on early material from Marshall, in this session, Miki will explore Marshall's vision as she understands it; his view of social structures; his understanding of the gap between where we are and the vision; and where he saw that NVC could be helpful in the various spheres of human social life. In addition, she will look at what happened to NVC since his most active years and how each of us can still find what is ours to do within the original map that Marshall left us. | Lorraine Aguilar This session is for those of you who want to make a difference in your workplace, regardless of your level of leadership. With the help of NVC, you will learn the secrets to being an effective change agent, how to use discernment on how and when to address the elephant in the room, and be savvy about the power dynamics in play. Because positive change is rarely a solo effort, you will also learn how to get your message heard and engage the people around you, while preventing a polarizing "us vs. them" dynamic. |
Session 3 1-3PM PT | Sarah Peyton Are you ever inspired by the glimpses you catch of NVC's beauty and relationality, only to lose sight of your dream in the wear and tear of everyday life? Join Sarah Peyton to explore the relational neuroscience of how we connect and change one another, and how to bring this knowledge as leverage to make the beauty of Nonviolent Communication a practice of everyday presence, and make your empathy more powerful. Participants will spend class time in an experiential discovery of attunement and its influence on the power of feelings and needs guesses. | Kathleen Macferran and Bob Salt Do you have many voices about sexuality competing in your head and vying for power in your heart? Are you looking to understand the chaos and bring more clarity to and confidence in your sexuality? This session will support you in exploring messages you’ve received throughout your lifetime about sexuality, empathically discern which have been of service and which have not, and then honestly embrace your own story in ways that bring sexual health and well-being. Note: the term “sexuality” in this session is used in a very broad way to talk about many aspects of who we are as gendered beings. All are welcome. | Yvette Erasmus Where are you getting stuck in your NVC practice? What isn't making sense to you or gelling? Bring your situations and questions to this session and Yvette will help you see some possible next steps or strategies that might support you in getting unstuck from socialized patterns. This session will be Q&A-focused and co-created by your situations and questions. |
Session 4 3:30-5:30 PM PT | Eric Huang Once we explore our needs, it's time to create or co-create an effective, do-able request. Even more challenging, is understanding how to make requests of self and the other. In this session, after practicing empathy around a need you are longing for, you will work in small groups to support each other in forming do-able requests for yourself or others. | Rodger Sorrow The power of self-empathy comes from connection to yourself and the source energy that flows through each of us all the time. When you are connected to your own feelings and needs, you are empowered to speak openly, honestly, and vulnerably with compassion for the impact of your words. Or you can listen empathically with full presence to what is alive in others. In this session, you will complete a self-empathy worksheet and share it with each other. It will be fun as we will laugh and learn together. | Alan Rafael Seid One of Dr. Marshall Rosenberg's dreams was to see a world in which everyone's needs mattered. The field of consciousness studies tells us that we perceive the world differently based on our psychological maturation. If we want to nurture leaders who are self-connected, can facilitate mutual understanding, act with integrity, and can effectively navigate the world of systems and structures — then how does NVC help us create a powerful team environment, with an emphasis on communication, collaboration, teamwork, leadership, and culture? This presentation includes and transcends what we know of Nonviolent Communication. |

9-9:30AM | Opening Session
Session 5 10AM-12PM PT | Sarah Peyton Are you sometimes shocked and confused by the venom in your own inner voice? Are you surprised and sad when you realize how cruel you are to yourself? And have you wondered how to use NVC empathy to change the tone and substance of your self-talk? Join Sarah Peyton to learn to leverage relational neuroscience to give your self-empathy strength and wings. | Aya Caspi In this session, Aya and her guests will share how two animated kids' shows she worked on at Warner Bros applied Nonviolent Communication. She’ll explore how she applied NVC to build trust and transform power differences within mainstream corporate culture, specific examples from the original scripts and her NVC notes to writers (and how those notes were applied), as well as the feedback she received from the writers and production team. This session will include a slide presentation, video, and group interaction. | Duke Duchscherer Social change is patient, persistent, and challenging work. In this session, you will learn about and explore the 3 elements of transformative social change. Together these elements enable us to more effectively leverage everyone's power not to work against each other but toward meeting a common challenge. Duke will also lead you in examining the Peacemaking Pyramid and how to use its wisdom to create next steps for your own social change projects. |
Session 6 1-3PM PT | David Weinstock Listening and speaking empathically when you are in pain is very difficult. A somatic approach for embodying NVC helps to develop self-awareness and the skills needed to reconcile the inconsistencies between your heart and your lips, what you say and what you do, and brings coherence to communication anchored in what you most deeply care about. Together we’ll explore gentle physical and verbal practices to deepen empathic listening skills for self-healing, finding our voices, making comprehensive choices, harmonizing difficult conflicts within and around us, and effecting positive change. | Jori and Jim Manske During this invigorating session, you will learn how the shared power of satisfied needs can energize you by contributing to body, mind, spirit, and community. Jori and Jim will guide you in exploring gratitude as well as many other life-serving and unifying emotions in an interactive and playful way. | Roberta Wall Do you feel strongly about issues such as abortion, Israel/Palestine, defunding the police, and gun control? How does NVC support your clarity and empowerment to advocate for controversial positions? Is NVC made for this? In this session, you will try out and give each other feedback as you use NVC concepts and practices such as making requests, proposing strategies, power sharing, and speaking your truth. Then we will debrief all questions, challenges and obstacles that come up after using NVC in this way and explore its effectiveness.

TESTIMONIALS 2024 CONFERENCE
“The Community Room is my favorite part about the conference. I greatly value having informal spaces available for people to meet each other and have free-form conversations, while having the option available to receive empathy from someone trained in NVC if desired.”
“I loved how much practice we got in each of the sessions. Thanks for the helpful intros to the sessions at the beginning of the day and for making all recordings accessible. There were so many that I wanted to attend, so I'm glad I can slowly catch up on the others. The empathic listener who took time with me in the community room was also an extra boost. Thanks!”
“VERY much appreciated the Community room, that added touch between sessions, and the final Harvest session as well.”
“I really learned at all my sessions, the breakouts, the community room - awesome needs met for learning, growth, communication, connection and empathy.”
“I really loved the interactive activities as well as the structured teaching. With each practice session the transformative nature of NVC became more apparent. I was impressed with the deepening self-awareness that happened as we offered need guesses to one another. What a powerful tool for connection and personal growth. Thank you!”
“I enjoy the format of zoom and the breakout rooms, it really helps being active in the learning experience!”
“The schedule with zoom links and time zone link made navigating the conference wonderfully easy. Having the conference on zoom is so important to me because I would have great difficulty affording an in-person conference. The expertise of the trainers made learning and participating very easy”
