Most of us have been educated from birth to think and communicate in terms of what is “right” and “wrong” with people.
We learn to compete, judge, demand, and diagnose, which leads us to express our feelings in terms of what has been done to us. In the heat of the moment, we struggle to understand what we want or need. And often we do not know how to ask for what we want without using unhealthy demands, threats, or coercion.
It is no surprise, then, that we sometimes find ourselves in the midst of unintentional chaos. Maybe that manifests as misunderstandings and frustration, or as something that keeps us from getting what we want—at home, at work, in our community. But it can also keep us from the fulfilling relationships we long for (and deserve). Still worse, it can lead to anger, depression and even emotional or physical violence.
The Nonviolent Communication (NVC) process offers a framework to reconnect us to the needs behind our behaviors, even in the most difficult of interactions.
Marshall B. Rosenberg, PhD, developed NVC in the 1960s, and from its inception the vision has been to teach people of any age, gender, ethnicity, or background a wildly effective alternative to our standard programming.
The NVC Academy provides the first centralized hub for Online NVC learning. At present, hundreds of CNVC Certified Trainers and supporters are teaching NVC skills to people all over the world, from all walks of life. NVC is for everyone.
Learn to transform the thinking, language, and moralistic judgments that keep you from the enriching relationships you dream of.
As you learn how to apply NVC in all areas of your life, you will start to resolve conflicts with more ease, learn to ask for what you want in ways that ensure you will receive it, begin to hear the true needs of others with less effort, strengthen your personal and professional relationships, and start to live to your full potential.
