  1. Living Our Values

    Living Our Values

    Mary Mackenzie

    Trainer Tips · 1 - 2 minutes · 4/10/2022

Trainer Tip: Sometimes I wish others would make it easy for me to live my values. If other people would just do their part, I wouldn’t have to work so hard at doing mine. Can you relate? However, if I support peace in the world, this means I act peacefully because it’s important to me, not because it’s important to others. Identify your most important value today. Then live it. Notice how healing this can feel even just after one day.

  2. Trainer Tip: When looking to create healthier habits for your body, consider what needs those habits support -- such as integrity, nurturing, or love. Then consider the ways your body supports your life, and if you want to live in harmony with your body. If you make loving your body as natural as brushing your teeth or making your bed in the morning, you can bring deeper peace into your life.

  3. Striving for Win-Win Resolutions

    Striving for Win-Win Resolutions

    Mary Mackenzie

    Trainer Tips · 1 - 2 minutes · 9/15/2022

Trainer Tip: Strive for win-win resolutions where no one loses. Try this rather than deciding things by the majority or compromise, where one or more parties feel dissatisfied with the resolution because it involves an element of giving in. An alternative is shifting; both people connect to the needs they are trying to meet, and in doing so, one person makes an honest shift to contribute to the other person’s needs and life.

    • Tune into your self-dialogue with a compassion that supports loving presence
    • Shift limiting beliefs about your parenting patterns so you can choose consciously
    • Transform frustration, confusion, or guilt into constructive, honest discussions
    • Foster your ability to say yes and no in a way that supports your natural limits
  4. Sustaining Our World

    Sustaining Our World

    Mary Mackenzie

    Trainer Tips · 1 - 2 minutes · 9/24/2022

Trainer Tip: The world’s people are consuming more of earth's resources at an astronomical speed. This is a form of violence, of not valuing everyone’s needs. Respect and support everything that lives, including yourself. How you can take less from earth’s resources and replenish more so that earth can flourish? Even if its small, take action today to support earth’s sustainability.

  5. Fear and Trust Facing the Year Ahead

Fear and Trust Facing the Year Ahead

    John Kinyon

    Trainer Tips · 1 - 2 minutes · 8/31/2022

In thinking about your relationship with fear and doubt, see what happens when you ask yourself "What do you trust?”. Here's an example response to that question, and how it can open new perspective, soften fear, and bring trust to new depths.

  6. MLK, Nonviolence, and Communication

    MLK, Nonviolence, and Communication

    John Kinyon

    Trainer Tips · 2 - 3 minutes · 9/9/2022

“Nonviolence” is not just a political tactic. It is a “soul force,” a courageous and compassionate stand in the face of what seems to us unjustly unequal, oppressive, and violent. It is the force of love meeting and transforming what appears to not be love.. It is the force of love meeting and transforming what appears to not be love. It is speaking and listening with courage, compassion, and an open heart and mind and rooted in our truth in a way that bridges understanding. And doing so without demand nor trying to convince -- all in the face of any anger, fear, oppression, inequality, violence or disagreement.

  7. Living In Joy

    Living In Joy

    Mary Mackenzie

    Trainer Tips · 1 - 2 minutes · 10/12/2022

Trainer Tip: When faced with doing a task that doesn't seem fun try saying to yourself something to the effect of “I do this activity because I value...”. Complete the sentence with related needs, then ask yourself if you still want to complete the task. This can take the demand out of the tasks. Next, choose accordingly. This can teach you about, or give you more access to, true choice in life.

  8. Living Peacefully

    Living Peacefully

    Mary Mackenzie

    Trainer Tips · 1 - 2 minutes · 12/5/2022

Trainer Tip: When we match might with might, we create discord, frustration, and separation from other people. Instead, place aside your urge to be right or to win. Approach charged situations with a sincere desire to be honest, and to value everyone’s needs including your own. The way you show up is a valuable asset. You may not get what you asked for but you can increase your chances of meeting your needs for integrity, and more.

  9. Enriching Life

    Enriching Life

    Mary Mackenzie

    Trainer Tips · 1 - 2 minutes · 1/2/2023

Trainer Tip: If you are motivated by fear, guilt, blame or shame, your actions will usually be motivated by avoiding pain. The best way to experience permanent, lifelong change is to focus on how your life will improve when you make a change. Notice when you attempt to motivate yourself and others with guilt, blame, or shame today, and then look for motivations that enrich life instead.

    • Inquire into your celebrations and mournings in four important categories of your life – body, heart, mind, and spirit – and "take stock" of how satisfied you are in these areas
    • Assess your current and past relationships to life, with an eye to leaning into intention setting for the next short (30 days) and midterm (6 months to 1 year) periods of time
    • Give and capture empathy for your future self, the self that revisits your intentions in 30, 180, and 360 days (this provides companionship for your future self)
  10. Separating Observations And Evaluations

    Separating Observations And Evaluations

    Mary Mackenzie

    Trainer Tips · 1 - 2 minutes · 01/27/2023

Trainer Tip: Oftentimes, when we mix an evaluation and observation, we promote defensiveness in other people. When we are able to separate the two, we are more likely to create opportunities to promote open dialogue about our concerns. Be aware of your evaluations and observations today.

    • Witness these two visionaries engage with love, openness, and curiosity
    • Explore open questions and curiosities you have about NVC

    • Expand your thinking within NVC and its relevance to our times
  11. Living Autonomously

    Living Autonomously

    Mary Mackenzie

    Trainer Tips · 1 - 2 minutes · 5/8/2023

Trainer Tip: Autonomy is not a need, but rather a way of living. We always have choices in life, even if none of them appeal to us. Becoming aware of our choices and taking responsibility for them leads to greater joy and empowerment.

  12. Focusing On What You Want

    Focusing On What You Want

    Mary Mackenzie

    Trainer Tips · 1 - 2 minutes · 6/10/2023

Trainer Tip: It can be more productive and satisfying to focus on what we want than on what we don’t have or don’t like. What will help rectify the situation? What would you like someone to do now or next time? This can eliminate much of the emotional pain caused by berating yourself or others. The moment your focus is on what is wrong with your life or what's lacking, take a moment to shift it to what you want.

  13. A Hunger For Appreciation

    A Hunger For Appreciation

    Mary Mackenzie

    Trainer Tips · 1 - 2 minutes · 8/9/2023

Trainer Tip: Ask someone what they enjoy about you being in their life. For example, “Would you tell me 3 specific reasons you enjoy having me in your life?” To a vague reply like, “Oh, you know I love you. I just like spending time with you.” Or, “You’re one of my best employees!” ask for more specificity (eg. “Can you tell me what I do and what needs it meets that makes me one of your best employees?”). This may reveal more to both of you.

  14. Beyond The Tyranny Of Hard Work

Beyond The Tyranny Of Hard Work

    Robert Maoz Krzisnik

    Articles · 3 - 5 minutes · 8/15/2023

No one on their deathbed wished they worked more. Working is unlikely to bring a meaningful life. And yet greeting friends with survivalist expressions, such as “I'm dead-tired", can feel like affirming our own worth. Taking time off can bring inner spaciousness, ease, rest and consequently time to meet life, to really meet it. Which brings more clarity into the question of what we would like to celebrate on our deathbed.

  15. Inspired By Meeting A Greek God

Inspired By Meeting A Greek God

    Robert Maoz Krzisnik

    Articles · 4 - 6 minutes · 7/19/2023

This anecdote illustrates how a young man had the social awareness to consider how male conditioning may bring up competitiveness in his interactions with another man. The young man offered transparency and checked for consent in a way that shows an embodiment of power-with, togetherness, consideration, care, collaboration... and all without displaying any formal NVC training, and without looking to impress.
