  2. Making The Evolutionary Leap

    Making The Evolutionary Leap

    John Kinyon

    Trainer Tips · 1 - 2 minutes · 2/1/2023

Shared story has been a way for groups to unite in opposition to a common enemy. But more divergent and virulent beliefs/stories swirl through the internet and social media, facilitating people to polarize against one another. So notice when you're caught in a polarizing story; try shifting focus to observing your mind; somatic presence; underlying commonality; consciousness as universal need, energy, and spaciousness; and the natural compassion and generosity that flow from this.

  3. Addressing Needs Beyond Market Economies

    Addressing Needs Beyond Market Economies

    Miki Kashtan

    Articles · 22 - 31 minutes · 10/14/2020

Within the pandemic, limitations of our market economies are more visible. Extreme need is exposed when the economy is collapsing and so many people are without jobs. We can now see how it’s possible to direct resources where they are most needed, solely out of care and interconnection. This is a call to explore a more viable way of living, that centers relationship over transaction.

This year, we decided to move the garden farther away from trees (to avoid the ongoing tree root issue and allow more sun). So, we created 4 new beds. Now, they are ready to be planted, and yet… forward momentum has stalled.

  10. Connection, Connection, Connection

    Connection, Connection, Connection

    Mary Mackenzie

    Trainer Tips · 2 - 3 minutes · 11/22/2020

Trainer tip: Do you get into “right fights”? You know you’re in one when you’re arguing with somebody in order to be right or because you want to win. What needs do I hope to meet from winning or being right? Notice if you enter into a right fight today and shift your focus to your needs and connecting with the other person's needs.

    • Strengthen embodied awareness
    • Integrate inner and outer worlds to create a connecting "corridor"
    • Identify projected images that prevent connecting
    • Embrace fear and transform reactivity
    • Create a support network where you can express and be heard
  11. Focusing on Where We Are the Same

Focusing on Where We Are the Same

    Mary Mackenzie

    Trainer Tips · 1 - 2 minutes · 12/2/2021

Trainer Tip: Our differences are not in our needs, but in how we attempt to meet them. This simple truth can help you lessen the conflicts in your life and your judgments of other people. Rather than focus on where you disagree, focus on where you are the same. This shift can make a profound difference in your ability to understand yourself and other people, and to bring unity to your life.

    Deal-Breakers and Staying with Yourself

    Elia Paz

    Practice Exercises · 8 - 12 minutes · 1/26/2024

When deciding if someone crossed your boundaries and how to respond, you may get conflicting opinions on it. These opinions can be coarse attempts to manage life with rules about what should(n’t) happen. Instead, so that you can find where you want to invest your energy, ask yourself questions that reveal what for you is truly in integrity, nourishing, connects to your heart, and deepens self understanding. Read on for examples.

  15. Our Afghan Story Revisited

    Our Afghan Story Revisited

    John Kinyon

    Trainer Tips · 5 - 7 minutes · 11/11/2023

Two NVC trainers went into dangerous, war torn territory to share the skills they found so valuable but end up learning that they need to first apply those skills before those they came to help could receive what they had to offer. Only when the foundation of connection and trust was built could they mediate the conflicts using empathic communication.

  16. Intrinsic vs. Extrinsic Motivation

    Intrinsic vs. Extrinsic Motivation

    Mary Mackenzie

    Trainer Tips · 1 - 2 minutes · 4/1/2024

Trainer Tip: Research shows long-term change comes when people have intrinsic desire to change. Extrinsic motivation is temporary and often only lasts while we're observed (eg. driving the speed limit when police are there). Notice where you're mostly intrinsically or extrinsically motivated. How does this feel? For instance, do you call mom because you want to connect with her? Or because you’re worried she’ll be hurt if you don’t?

  17. Welcome to June. It’s the beginning of summer in my area of the world and I usually find myself moving at a slower pace; spending more time outdoors and with friends, more time reading and gardening. I really enjoy the beginning of summer especially because the sun brings just enough heat to feel good, but not so hot to be uncomfortable.
