Join us for a heartfelt and practical conversation with four seasoned Nonviolent Communication (NVC) trainers as they share simple, grounding practices to help you meet the intensity of these times with clarity, compassion, and courage.

This 75-minute panel is both a gift to our global community and a fundraiser for the continued work of NVC Academy. Whether you're feeling lost, numb, angry, or hopeful, this event is here to offer support and tangible tools you can use right now.

What You’ll Hear From the Panelists:

Each panelist will offer a unique lens on reclaiming power and hope in daily life. 

⭐ Catherine Cadden will explore how to talk with children about difficult topics, including how to listen deeply and respond with empathy and discernment. 
⭐ Jesse Wiens Chu will share inner grounding practices to help us meet these times with calm, compassion, and courageous action.
⭐ Duke Duchscherer will discuss how to build systems that support NVC consciousness in your family, workplace, or neighborhood to support lasting change.
⭐ Kathleen Macferran will share how she engages with the three pillars of nonviolence—self-care, community building, and civil resistance—as everyday practices.

Meet the Panelists

Catherine Cadden
Catherine is a certified trainer, mom, activist, educator, storyteller, and dancer with 35 years of experience in bringing innovative programs in nonviolence, mindfulness, and conflict transformation to people of all ages, on six continents. She is the author of Peaceable Revolution Through Education and co-author of The Ongo Book: Everyday Nonviolence.

Duke Duchscherer
Duke is a certified trainer who offers training events in Nonviolent Communication and facilitates Restorative Dialogue to transform conflicts and reconcile communities. He works around the world with a depth and breadth of peoples and communities from small villages at the grassroots to governmental leaders at the United Nations on six continents.

Jesse Wiens Chu
Jesse is the Executive Director of Baba Tree International, a nonprofit organization that provides programs in practical peace worldwide. He is also an assessor and certified trainer with the Center for Nonviolent Communication, and co-author of The Ongo Book: Everyday Nonviolence. Previously, Jesse trained for seven years in Zen meditation at Buddhist monasteries in the U.S. and China.

Kathleen Macferran
Kathleen is a certified trainer who has been supporting individuals and communities worldwide in conflict transformation and system building since 2003. With decades of experience in education, facilitation, and restorative practices, she spent over 20 years bringing healing, equity, and nonviolence to prisons. Her commitment to transformative change continues to inspire communities across the globe.

Meet the Moderator

Mary Mackenzie
Co-founder of NVC Academy, Mary is also a certified trainer, mediator, and author of Peaceful Living and Giraffe and Jackal are Friends Again, a children's picture book. A pioneer in online NVC education, she has taught worldwide for over 20 years, supporting individuals and groups in fostering compassionate communication, emotional clarity, and collaboration rooted in shared human values.
